Filipiniana.net Project Meeting
Last February 8, 2007, an overnight discussion was push through on FilNet project. They said, it was a Strategy Meeting but for me, it is a sort of Planning Meeting for another months of production and launching schedules. We discussed more on the publication plan and other criticism of the site.
Debate on contents and task assignments created a much active participation of the group. The editors and consultants criticized our digilib and are asking for improvements. We ask them to write down their wish list so we can streamline the process in between and we can come up with a plan and necessary requirements.
My contribution was supposed to be a presentation on the Wiki project but my interest fades away when our publisher wants to remove all non performing parts of the site. Though it was not my fault, I want them to realized that I have provided them the facility on their request and its no longer my jurisdiction to fill up its contents. I have made initial copy and contents of its sections and its continuity should already come from them.
With this meeting, we manage to identify our shortcomings and no time to blame anyone. We all know that we have no enough manpower to supply the demand of running a live site. And much more to the crave of our very enthusiastic visionary publisher that always has new ideas in mind and being a bibliophile himself, revisions in our digilib is prevalent. I understand that the site is on its infancy period and still on the learning curve in coming up with a digital library project.
Our publisher always pushes us for updates if he finds something new on the net that we can adapt in our site. This is just a manifestation that he himself has not yet identified the true direction of our project. Nevertheless, I believe on this project and I want to be part and make it happen. His several meetings with prospective partners always come up with new ideas and projects to pile up to the site. My technical team is not in favor with the idea because we cannot just come up with something that are not being carefully planned. The technical aspect of its inclusion should not affect our internal structure. Also we have to consider that such actions would not interfere with the existing schedules in the production line.
The following day I have presented Filipiniana.net: A Year in Review and show to the team the highlights of FilNet development for the past six months prior to its launch last Sept 27. I also tackled some features and structure remodeling as we go on with the project in an internet speed. This is also something to refresh our new staffs and let them know our humble beginnings and be inspired with the advocacy we are promoting in this nationalistic endeavor.
Since, the site was really a non-commercial, we come up with strategies to at least sustain our existence. Now, filipiniana.net is not only into digital library .... it has already its print division that we should cater and devote our time. The simultaneous launching of books, events seminar and presentation are tiring but rewarding. All our events from its IAHA presentation to the Fabian De La Rosa book launch was something we have accomplished in flying colors. We are just a small group so far and yet we manage to put all those activities in our hands. Now, planning has to go on...
