Transition Period

Since, my transfer to this project and becomes one of its leading team, the transition from my previous work is inevitable and also to consider my newly annointed one : ) be familiar of the nature of my work then. From time to time he called me and ask me questions pertaining to my previous assignment (deadlines and back logs). Well, I am use to this, and this is my 4th time that i have been transferred to handle new position and assignments. I feel like I'm a military man who's destination is being carried whenever he's service is needed. A critical project such as this, needs key personnel to accomplished its mission..Tama ba ako?

Here comes FILIPINIANA.NET

An announcement has been made and I was called at the management office. They want my immediate transfer and be part of the team. I have to assume new position and this is more challenging to me. I like challenges and I know I will love this.. This is just in time to make me concentrate on this project. Then, after two days, GAV contacted me thru Skype and announced ask me if I have already transfered my table..well I know he got something to do with my immediate promotion... So long after weeks of discussion with my Spanish editor, and with initial pages as a start, FILIPINIANA.NET fly on the web on this day. We still have no contents yet. Just a plain and simple site for introduction of who we are and what we are planning to do. What is important according to my boss is we are going live. I receive an email while I'm jotting this note and i quote him " Congrats on the splash page, finally Filipiniana.net is a reality!"

Online Requirements

That's January 30 when i wrote a comprehensive report on web development as our guidelines on the ventures for online publishing. I have to embarked some ideas to the members of the team on the first requirements that we should consider as we plan our first step on this project. It was forwarded in PDF format via email in New York so my boss GAV will have some ideas on what we are doing back here in Manila. He is very eager to start with the project as soon as possible and he always keep in touch with us via videoconference tool of Skype . He is the type who always wants to see instant results of his ideas. So, while waiting for his response, I am scouting for a new host for our websites. I am planning to have upgrade our existing bandwidth and web space to accommodate the FILNET project. With this, I am looking for a host who offers more flexibility on its Cpanel and i'm glad i have found Bigbytes.Net . I have applied for a 1GB subscription plan and good to know it has more ...

The "Alibata" Bow!

Finally I see the light at the end of the tunnel over email discussion. GAV wants to put an imprint of our current publishing company and at the same time published his personal collections on the net. This time we talk about the web and at instant he wants us to create a portal or an online library of his historical collection. This is more on Philippine rare books and images that he acquired while he stayed in New York for more than a two decades. And now, he is bringing these to the Philippines and let Filipinos enjoy it for FREE. Whew, this sounds so exciting— a very unique vision of a publisher. Giving away books and images on the net is a work of Philanthropist. Do I get it? hmmm.. there might be something wrong..well lets wait for more details on my next post.

The "ALIBATA" Thing

It started as logo project way back last week of November 2005. A name that is very pinoy to us and common word we encounter when we read something about our history. At first, I ask myself what is this all about. Why we should come up with such a name and add a common web extension to make it as web company or something? Well, i don't know. I'm a bit confused..demoralized may be. Know what? I am working in a big publishing firm and having a name of a department or division with a web extensions ( such as .net ) is something new to us. What I have in mind right now is may be we are going into Online Publishing which is one of the trends on the web. If we do this today at least its not yet too late. The boom of online publishing in the Philippines is only on its prime and we have the edge because of our foundation on publishing. For now, I need is to personally talk to sir GAV and ask him what is this for and what are his intensions. They are now starting to build a team an...

Katribong Pinoy goes Online

I am currently doing a nationalistic endeavor as a developer of a site that soon to make a history on its own :) This is the FILNET Project which has a vision to be the prime resource portal on Philippine studies. As we go on with its development side, I rather make this blog to serve as my online journal on the ups and down of the project as we go along side by side with the process of its development. So allow me to go back few months ago and discuss how it started. Now, my problem is how to maintain this page and how would be able to have time jotting these notes and at the same time coding the road to history .
